GREEN HOME DESIGN

Green Duplex

Sustainable Mutifamily Living

Hugh Bitz's East Hill duplex is one of Vernon's newest sustainable designs and was the first to be certified LEED Platinum. It is one of only a few houses in Canada to achieve the LEED Platinum distinction, the highest possible rating from the Canada Green Building Council.

Bitz's design focuses on the integration of Modern design elements and the use of the most advanced eco-friendly products, technology and innovations that are available today. It is the first step in an ambitious plan to revitalize a neglected 1950's neighbourhood in lower East Hill. Plans are in the works for more multifamily dwellings similar to this one.

The Kerchum house was recently built in Vancouver, BC on West 21st Avenue and became the first Platinum Certified LEED home in British Columbia. It was recently awarded the national "Green Home Award" for 2010 by the Canadian Homebuilder's Association.

In the full article, Patrick Warren of Frits de Vries Architect Ltd. explains his clients' project goals and how they were able to fulfill their needs.
